Meet the Founder
Hi, I’m Kahla—Founder of Go Finish Forward
I created Go Finish Forward to help working adults, first-generation learners, transfer students, and non-traditional students make smarter decisions about education without feeling like they have to figure everything out alone.
Returning to school as an adult is about much more than completing an application.
You may be trying to determine:
Which degree will actually support your career goals
Whether college is still worth the investment
Which school offers the strongest value
How many of your previous credits will transfer
Whether alternative-credit providers can save you time and money
How financial aid, grants, loans, and refunds work
How to manage school while working and supporting a family
What to do when life becomes overwhelming or you begin falling behind
These are not small decisions.
They can affect your finances, time, household, career, and future for years.
I created Go Finish Forward to make those decisions feel clearer, more organized, and less intimidating.
Why I Created Go Finish Forward
I kept noticing that many adults were asking the same questions:
Am I too old to go back to school?
Is earning a degree still worth it?
Should I earn a degree, certificate, or professional credential?
How can I finish faster without wasting money?
Can I use Sophia Learning, Study.com, CLEP, or other alternative-credit options?
Why did one school accept my credits while another school did not?
What does the FAFSA actually do?
What is the difference between grants and student loans?
Will I receive a financial-aid refund?
How do I compare the real cost of two schools?
How do I balance classes with work, children, bills, and everyday life?
What happens if I fall behind?
Many students are not lacking ambition.
They are lacking a clear roadmap.
Go Finish Forward brings the information, questions, tools, and planning resources together in one place so students can make more informed decisions before committing their time and money.
My Approach
I believe education planning should be practical, transparent, and easy to understand.
My goal is not to pressure anyone into enrolling in a particular school or choosing a specific degree.
My goal is to help you:
Compare your options carefully
Understand the real cost of attendance
Separate free aid from borrowed money
Protect the credits you have already earned
Identify legitimate lower-cost credit options
Ask better questions before enrolling
Build a plan that works with your responsibilities
Avoid unnecessary debt and preventable mistakes
Choose a path you can realistically complete
You deserve more than motivation.
You deserve information, structure, and a strategy.

More Than a Degree
Go Finish Forward is about more than choosing a college or completing a degree.
It is about making informed decisions, understanding what you are paying for, protecting your finances, creating options, and building a future that feels more stable and intentional.
For many first-generation and adult students, financial aid is one of the most confusing parts of returning to school.
Terms such as FAFSA, Pell Grant, subsidized loan, cost of attendance, financial-aid refund, and Satisfactory Academic Progress are often explained as though students already understand the system.
That is why I wrote:
Financial Aid Without the Confusion
A First-Generation Adult Student’s Guide to FAFSA, Grants, Loans, Refunds and Paying for College
I created this book for the student who has never completed a FAFSA, does not understand the difference between grants and loans, and may feel uncomfortable asking questions that everyone else seems to already understand.
The book explains financial aid in plain language so students can understand what they are being offered before they accept loans, choose a school, or make a major financial commitment.
Inside, readers learn:
What the FAFSA actually does
How the Student Aid Index works
The difference between grants, scholarships, and loans
Subsidized and unsubsidized student loans
What cost of attendance includes
Why two schools may offer different amounts
How financial-aid refunds are calculated
Why a larger aid offer may not mean a better deal
What happens if a student withdraws
How Satisfactory Academic Progress can affect aid
What professional judgment means
How to compare the real cost of two schools
What to ask the financial-aid office
What to consider before accepting student loans
The complete guide also includes practical worksheets, calculators, trackers, and school-comparison tools.
The Bigger Mission
Education can be one important part of changing your life, but it is not the entire journey.
Through In the Becomingh, I explore the broader process of personal growth, career development, confidence, life planning, and becoming the person you are working toward.
Go Finish Forward focuses on the education plan.
In the Becoming focuses on the person creating the plan.
Together, they support the same mission:
Helping people make thoughtful decisions, move forward with confidence, and build lives they are proud of.
You Are Not Behind
Returning to school later in life does not mean you failed.
Changing direction does not mean you wasted time.
Asking questions does not mean you are unprepared.
It means you are trying to make a thoughtful decision about your future.
You do not have to understand every financial-aid rule, compare every school, or build your entire degree plan in one day.
You only need enough clarity to take the next right step.
Start with the free resources, explore the planning tools, or choose the guide that solves the problem you are facing right now.
Plan smart. Move forward. Finish strong.
